Affordable Navy Half Bath Makeover

When we renovated our last house everything seemed so overwhelming cost wise, we had a house that felt so huge to us at the time (1600 square feet) and two sets of parents that I’m pretty sure thought we were lunatics for buying a house that needed as much as it did. A bathroom renovation always seemed like such a big and costly job, and it definitely can be if you are moving plumbing, but we learned that if we were doing a simple switch out of fixtures ourselves, we’d save a boodle of money. Whenever we renovate, even now, we are always asking if the changes we are making are smart for resale and if we’ll recoop our costs. If you know you are in your first house or know you are going to sell soon definitely ask yourself that same question.

I did this mood board for our good friends and neighbors. They wanted a quick change without a huge cost. I worked up five mood boards for them and we landed on this design (I’ll share some of the other ones later). Currently these pieces (or similar items that you’ll see I suggested below) are on order and their bathroom is torn up! I thought it would be fun to occasionally share mood boards like this with you to get your wheels turning so that you can see how much a remodel could cost in your own home (these prices are not including plumbers, electricians or tilers if you don’t know how to replace a toilet / vanity / tile your floor).

Vanity || Toilet (from Home Depot or Build.com)  || Light  || Mirror  || Tile  || Rug (the 2×3 size is sold out)

You know how much I love navy. I think it’s so classy and a great alternative to black, especially if you are in a coastal area or just love the coastal style. This whole mood board was based off this navy vanity (50% off until April 2!!!), which is one of the most affordable ones in navy I’ve seen.

The mirror is swap from a very similar mirror from Anthropologie that I loved but couldn’t use because it was too small. My client purchased the last rug in 2×3 that I linked above but I think the rug we put into our coffee bar area would be fabulous too and add some color while tying in the navy (there is only one left in stock of the smallest size though!).

If you were on a really tight budget you could swap out the toilet above for this one (we use it in all of our rentals because it’s affordable and water saving!).

It’s hard to tell you exactly how much this room would cost for you because I can’t calculate your floor square footage but my guess is that this will set you back about $1100 for materials (this is not including a faucet or toilet paper holder). I love that it’s a simple space, can be appealing to future buyers and can have some color easily added with your rug choice or artwork.

Now for the fun part that will benefit one of you…

I am giving away a mood board like this that we can tailor to your house for a current email subscriber and for a new email subscriber. You pick the room and the budget. If you are currently subscribed you don’t have to do anything!
